I don’t know how the year has moved so quickly, but here we are—saying goodbye to September, welcoming October, and gearing up for another awards season. Aside from the fanfare (and quite frankly politics) of the season, I truly enjoy the quality of films that arrive around this time of year. Check out my top 11 most anticipated features below!
The French Dispatch - October 22nd, 2021
A Wes Anderson Film to top all Wes Anderson films? Yeah, I’m in. Check out the trailer here.
C’Mon C’mon - November 2021
The teen angst drama was my jam throughout high school and into my college years, but now slice-of-life dramas are where I thrive. This looks beautifully shot, devastatingly acted, and everything in between. Check out the trailer here.
Spencer - November 5th, 2021
Director Pablo LarraÃn’s Jackie moved me, and his latest project Spencer follows the long-grown-cold marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days. Check out the trailer here.
Tick, Tick… Boom - November 10th, 2021
If 2021 was anything, it was the year of the musical. Over five large-scale musicals were released this year. Tick, Tick… Boom may be the most indie of them all. Andrew Garfield can do no wrong. Check out the trailer here.
Passing - November 10th, 2021
This first premiered at Sundance and will play at the New York Film Festival next (one I get to attend, EEK). Playing to great reviews I’m excited most to see Tessa and Ruth do their thing, that is, act their faces off. Check out the trailer here.
The Humans - November 24th, 2021
Based on the Tony Award-winning play, The Humans follows a family coming together for Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday we won’t soon forget. Check out the trailer here.
House of Gucci - November 24th, 2021
Inspired by the shocking true story of the family empire behind the Italian fashion house of Gucci, we see what a name means, what it’s worth, and how far a family will go for control. Also, Gaga. Check out the trailer here.
Licorice Pizza - November 26th, 2021
I will always catch a film about young love, growing up, and the 1970s. Catch me at the Cinema on November 26th. Check out the trailer here.
West Side Story - December 10th, 2021
I’m not sure what to say; that hasn’t already been stated. This is my favorite musical of all time, from a director I adore (Steven Speilberg) and new choreography from one of the greatest of our generation ( Justin Peck). December can’t arrive quicker. Check out the trailer here.
Nightmare Alley - December 17th, 2021
With The Shape of Water being one of my all-time favorite films, anything Guillermo del Toro creates. The cast is pretty all-star too. Check out the trailer here.
Don’t Look Up - December 24th, 2021
It’s Adam McKay (The Big Short) and Jennifer Lawerance, and Leo Decaprio, and Jonah Hill, and Tyler Perry, and Timothee Chalamet, and Ariana Grande, and Meryl Streep, and Cate Blanchett. Check out the trailer here.
The Tragedy of Macbeth - December 25th, 2021
Four names: Denzel Washington, Francis McDormand, Joel Cohen, William Shakespeare. Check out the trailer here.
This list didn’t include the Marvel blockbusters Spiderman: No Way Home and The Eternals, both of which excites me greatly.
