The Importance of Framing
Living in this digital age has pushed me to embrace things that are tangible. I want to feel the fabric of clothes before I buy them. I want to hold the hardback book in my hands as I read it. I want to form an inspiration board and have it hanging on my wall as I create. This embrace of the tangible has extended to pictures.
Ashley has been shooting on film cameras consistently for the past 7 years, but it wasn’t until recently that I began to see the beauty behind it. Film is not instant. Digital is. Film is not an unlimited amount of frames. Digital is. To shoot film is to understand aperture, shutter speed, and iso. Digital is not (well, doesn’t have to be). There is a process. The process is tangible. It adds expertise, and quality, and effort. Once the pictures have been developed, printing is the final step. Printing the pictures gives them value and freezes the moment captured.
We have made a point to hang as many pictures in our house as we can aesthetically get away with. When I walk past our walls covered in prints, I am taken to those moments in time. The images were not meant to be taking up space on my phone or hard drive, they were meant to be printed and framed.
Ashley has done a great job of educating her photography clients on the importance of printing their pictures. She is selling more than just a photography session, she is selling timeless heirloom images that will be treasured for years to come. Maybe you haven’t taken professional pictures in a while, but surely you have taken images on your phone. Print them. Frame them. I truly don’t think there is anything more special than seeing your life on the walls of your home. You are building a legacy, showcase it!
